Depression

Signs and Symptoms:
  • Feelings of sadness, anxiety and hopelessness.
  • Sense of impending doom or disaster.
  • Reduced enjoyment and pleasure -
    void of emotions.
  • Loss of energy and motivation.
  • Low self-esteem or guilt, feelings
    of worthlessness.
  • Feelings of deep insecurity.
  • Preoccupation with failures
    or inadequacies.
  • Eating disturbance - increased
    or decreased.
  • Sleeping disturbance - increased
    or decreased.
  • Diminished ability to think or concentrate; slowed thinking
    or indecisiveness.
  • Recurrent thoughts of death
    or suicidal thoughts or attempts.
  • Phantom aches and pains.
Solutions:
  • If you, or someone you know, experiences the above signs of depression, don't despair, get help, see a doctor, join a support group.
  • Visit your family doctor, describe your symptoms, discuss medications, types of
    treatment available.
  • Ask to be referred to a psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of mood disorders.
  • Remember you are not alone!
  • There may not as yet be a 'cure', however, treatment is available.
