Depression
Signs and Symptoms:
- Feelings
of sadness, anxiety and hopelessness.
- Sense
of impending doom or disaster.
- Reduced
enjoyment and pleasure -
void of emotions.
- Loss
of energy and motivation.
- Low
self-esteem or guilt, feelings
of worthlessness.
- Feelings
of deep insecurity.
- Preoccupation
with failures
or inadequacies.
- Eating
disturbance - increased
or decreased.
- Sleeping
disturbance - increased
or decreased.
- Diminished
ability to think or concentrate; slowed thinking
or indecisiveness.
- Recurrent
thoughts of death
or suicidal thoughts or attempts.
- Phantom
aches and pains.
Solutions:
- If
you, or someone you know, experiences the above signs of depression,
don't despair, get help, see a doctor, join a support group.
- Visit
your family doctor, describe your symptoms, discuss medications,
types of
treatment available.
- Ask
to be referred to a psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment
of mood disorders.
- Remember
you are not alone!
- There
may not as yet be a 'cure', however, treatment is available.
